Failure is not an option

14 Feb

I slept in incredibly late today, and I knew right away I was not in the mood to do any running or working out of any kind today. So I jumped online and started reading some blogs. Caitlin’s is usually one of the first I read every day, and I’m so glad I did. Her post this morning was about failure and not letting yourself use it in your vocabulary. When she said “I’m out there, I’m running, and I’m doing my best – TODAY.  I might be slower than usual, and I might be taking walking breaks, but neither of these things makes me a failure!  A true fail would be doing NOTHING.  So, SOMETHING – no matter how far or how short or how slow or how fast – is NOT a failure”, I knew I had to get off the couch and do something.

And as a comment on Caitlin’s post, Erin shared this great poem:

Don’t Quit (anonymous)

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit
Rest if you must, but don’t you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and its turns,
As everyone of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about
When they might have won, had they stuck it out.
Don’t give up though the pace seems slow,
You may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than,
It seems to a faint and faltering man,
Often the struggler has given up
When he might have captured the victor’s cup;
And he learned too late when the night came down,
How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far;
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit,
It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit!

I grabbed my gym clothes and sneakers and headed off to the Y for a 30-minute bike ride. I did 9.15 miles (18.3 mph), and I felt great. I’m so glad I went! And I ran in to my good friend Jon, who moved away for a little bit. He saw me and said “wow, you look like half a person!” Gotta love compliments!!!

So now I’m home enjoying some of my favorite things.

Netflix brought me two more Big Love DVDs, and somehow I now receive Redbook even though I never subscribed to it. And the little store in my neighborhood finally got PB Loco back in stock, so I picked up the Dark Chocolate flavor. This stuff is crack in peanut butter form.

Also making me happy today is the thought that I got some cuddles last night 🙂

    Blogs can be incredibly motivating somtetimes. They were a big reason I got back into the right frame of mind to lose weight again.
